Primary Assessment - Formative Assessment 2

December 13, 2013 by Administrator

This programme is subtitled.

What happens in a KS2 science lesson when the techniques of formative assessment are applied to a revision lesson on light?

Education expert Professor Paul Black has evidence to show that getting children to do the majority of the work in the classroom leads to significant school improvement.

Assessment co-ordinator Marziya Panju reviews the lesson with teacher Julia Turner as she works with pupils to determine their learning intentions and uses mind maps to develop their success criteria.

Marziya discusses with Julia how the children have been given responsibility for their own learning and we see them at work in small groups, choosing their own resources and going out of the classroom to use the library and ICT suite. The lesson review is punctuated by commentary from Professor Paul Black on the effectiveness and implementation of the formative assessment technique.

This programme shows:

  • A critique of a formative assessment-based lesson in action
