In the Money: Outside Help

December 11, 2013 by Administrator

At Gospel Oak School in Camden, north London, headteacher Alan Seymour has a problem. He wants to cover non-contact time for his pupils with a full-time music teacher, but he can't afford it.

Former teacher and business executive Fiona Eldridge wants to help. Assessing the school and its budget, she critiques Alan's spending habits and analyses his creativity in budgeting. Can she trim #30,000 to fund a full-time music teacher?

Fiona and Alan discuss the ways in which private sponsorship or volunteers can be used in a school and the ways schools can generate income to pay for extra staff, as well as ways to implement cost savings.

This programme discusses:

  • Critiquing budgets
  • Seeking private sponsorship
  • Employing volunteers to cut costs
